When is cherry blossom season in Japan in 2027?
In a normal year the cherry trees open in Tokyo March 24 (full bloom March 31), Kyoto March 26 (full bloom April 4), Osaka March 27 (full bloom April 4), by the Japan Meteorological Agency's 1991–2020 normals. Dates move by a week or more from year to year; we add 2027's dates as the agency observes them.
When is the best time to see cherry blossoms in Tokyo?
Around full bloom, normally March 31. Tokyo's trees open around March 24 and have reached full bloom about 7 days later in recent years.
When did the cherry blossoms open in Tokyo in 2026?
On March 19, 5 days earlier than normal, with full bloom on March 28. The earliest opening since 2021 was March 14 in 2023.
What do "opening" and "full bloom" mean?
The agency watches one sample tree (a Somei-Yoshino cherry) in each city. It records the opening day when five or six flowers have opened, and full bloom when about 80% of the buds are open.
